Vulcanized Rubber Flooring Rolls

Vulcanized Rubber Flooring Rolls heavy-duty rubber matting that is designed to withstand the toughest environments while remaining flexible and elastic to provide both energy restitution & shock absorption.

Vulcanizing composition rubber enhances the toughness and durability of the rubber, making it stronger and helping it last for years, even in the most demanding wet and dry environments thanks to the 100% pure vulcanized crumb raw rubber.

The vulcanization process for rubber flooring improves the rubber's wear resistance while also making it much less absorbent with the benefit of maintaining the rubber flooring's elasticity and flexibility, thus allowing it to provide the energy return expected in sport & fitness facilities.

These rubber rolls are 4' wide and offered in traditional 6mm (1/4"), 8mm, 9mm (3/8)", 12mm (1/2") and 18mm (3/4") thicknesses in a variety of popular colors. Despite being durable, vulcanized rolls can still easily & cleanly be cut down as needed.

All the raw materials and the production of the vulcanized rubber itself is done here, in America, and are built to last regardless of the application.

    Customer Questions & Answers

Can't find the answer you need? Ask a Question
What is the benefit of vulcanization in terms of rubber flooring?
    - Drew L.

The vulcanizing process employs heat, pressure and safe, simple elements to make the rubber, stronger, tougher and longer lasting regardless of use or environment.  This rubber is stain-, fade- and mildew-resistant and can perform well in industrial applications and residential setting alike for many, many years.  Vulcanizing rubber improves it's resistance to wear and tear while keeping the rubber flexible so that it can provide the energy restitution athletes need and expect all the while protecting floors with heavy-duty impact absorption.

Can vulcanized rubber hold up well if used in a garage where there's exposure to the outside?
    - Jennifer L.

Certainly!  Vulcanized Rubber Flooring Rolls will not be negatively affected if placed in a garage and being constantly exposed to sun, rain, snow, etc.  (Please note, however, that if the rubber is exposed to more extreme temperature swings it is possible for the rubber to expand and contract slightly.)

Will these vulcanized rubber rolls hold up well in a commercial gym?
    - Faith E.

Absolutely!  Vulcanized rubber is engineered to withstand constant abuse in the most demanding environments and continue to provide both energy restitution to those working out as well as impact absorption to help protect the floor below.

Will the rolls line up if we install multiple vulcanized rolls side by side?
    - Shawn C.

These rubber roll mats are cut to be EXACTLY 48" (4') wide and are perfectly straight so you could line up two (or more) pieces together and they will lay next to each other perfectly (you wouldn't hardly see the seam unless you're looking for it).

Can we easily cut down the Vulcanized rubber to fit a non-rectangular space?
    - Eric B.

Vulcanized Rubber is dense, rubber flooring but can still easily be cut down.  The rubber can be cut using a straight edge or T-square and a razor (utility) knife with a sharp blade or even a (flooring) tile cutter. If cutting with the razor/utility knife, it will take several strokes of the knife: don't press too hard but just put some pressure on as you cut and, after a few strokes, you'll cut right through it. A good trick to help make the cutting a little easier is to dip the blade into soapy water to help it glide easier across the rubber.

What's the best way to clean the rubber once it's installed?
    - Len T.

Vacuuming will help remove finer particles of dust, debris, dirt, etc. for the Vulcanized rubber.  If the mats are loose-laid on the floor, you can bring them outside to hose the mats down for a deeper cleaning (or even power wash them every once in a while for a heavy-duty cleaning). Shaking out and/or vacuuming should take care of virtually all of your day-to-day dirt and debris.

For larger mats and/or mats that have been glued down or installed wall-to-wall, the mats can be moped down with a mild detergent or a little soap and warm water. Simply let the mat air dry and they'll be good to go.

Is this product mold and mildew resistant for use on basement floors?
    - Elgin L.

Yes! These rubber mats are made to be mold and mildew resistant (due to the warm, sweaty environments they're often used in) and can safely be placed in basements, garages and other areas that could have exposure to moisture.

Are these rolls toxic? Does the product off-gas a rubber smell? If so, how long does it take to dissipate?
    - Dwayne C.

Vulcanized Rubber Rolls are manufactured here, in the US, from US-sourced rubber components and do not have any harmful/toxic chemicals used in their preparation or production. (This rubber flooring is virtually pure rubber (with less than 1% binder to hold the rubber together, which is also not harmful)). American Floor Mats has been selling these rubber rolls to commercial facilities and residential locations for decades without incident.  Additionally, the rubber is continuously tested throughout manufacturing as well as being officially certified by 3rd party inspectors to ensure it meets all government safety standards.

Can you describe the surface texture? Is it good for working out?
    - Edward V.

Vulcanized Rubber Flooring is smooth but does have a very slight texture for enhanced traction, especially if there's moisture/sweat/etc. on the mat. You wouldn't notice it while wearing shoes or even socks, but if you put your bare hand on top of the mat you would notice the faint texture (ie, it's not sheet-of-glass smooth but it's still quite smooth). The material is still easy to clean & maintain while also being able to secure equipment on top without fear of it wobbling. If you'd like to see a free cut sample of the actual material, contact us and we'll get it right out to you.

Is Vulcanized Rubber better than standard Rubber Roll flooring?
    - Chris G.

Both standard and vulcanized rubber flooring are heavy-duty, durable, commercial-grade rubber that are engineered for years of use in the most demanding applications.  In particular, Vulcanized Composition Rubber, which is manufactured here in the US, is harvest from vulcanized rubber tires that are cleaned, stripped and purified and then formatted to rubber rolls, which gives the rolls enhanced performance and wear characteristics.

Does vulcanized rubber flooring need to be glued down?
    - Terius G.

Although it's common (though not always necessary) for these rubber flooring rolls to be glued in placed for commercial and industrial applications, most residential customers simply loose lay the vulcanized rubber right onto the floor without any tape or adhesive and the rubber performs just as expected.

Are these vulcanized rolls made in the USA?
    - Rollie F.

These rubber rolls are manufactured here in the US from US-sourced components.

How long are these rubber rolls manufactured?
    - William W.

Each vulcanized rubber roll can quickly and easily be made to virtually any length (in whole foot increments) from 1' to 250'.  Typically for larger installations, rolls are made the full length of a room with just a little extra material that can simply be cut on site to ensure full floor coverage in areas that aren't perfectly square.
