Waterhog Premier Mats

Waterhog Premier Mats are a nominal 3/8" thick, meaning they're slightly thinner than 3/8" (almost closer to 1/4"). This thickness allows for heavy duty scraping action and ample water wicking / retention, while helping to ensure that virtually all commercial and residential doors can easily open and close over these Premier mats.

Waterhog Mats in general (and the ultra-durable Waterhog Premier mats in particular) are built to last.  On the flip side, they also are designed to be easy to maintain. Waterhog Premier, like the other mats in this product line, can be cleaned by simply shaking out much of the dirt and debris or vacuuming as needed, based on the amount of traffic and dirt & debris that is removed from shoes. For a deeper cleaning, although not necessary, these mats can be hosed down or even power washed and left outside to air dry. Frequent cleaning will not harm the integrity or longevity of these Waterhog mats.

Good question. Although almost all of the other Waterhog matting products are able to be customized, the Waterhog Premier mats are only available in certain, incremental lengths and in 3 ft, 4 ft, and 6 ft widths (the surface pattern on these mats is multi-directional and therefore either side could be considered the width and either side could be considered the length).  Thus, the sizes listed on this product page are the only smaller sizes available - we can also produce these mats in incremental lengths up to 60 ft long.

Both Waterhog border types provide equal durability and water retention capabilities, even in high traffic environments. The reason being that the matching fabric border has the surface fabric stretched over the existing rubber border instead of stopping right before it. Thus, the heavy duty rubber nosing is present on all sides of the mat regardless of the border style chosen.  Therefore, the biggest difference between the two styles is simply a visual difference and not a functional one.

Whereas the Smooth backing is specifically designed for use on hard floor surfaces, the Gripper backing has more universal functionality.  The Gripper backing has thousands of little nubs on the underside of the mat that help grab the floor, especially carpeted surfaces, to help keep the mat from scooting around. These nubs are about 1/16" thick and will not damage even the most delicate, hand woven rugs. Furthermore, the Gripper backing can be used on virtually any surface though the smooth backing is still the ideal option on hard floors.

Although both are heavy duty, commercial-grade entrance mats that are used in a wide variety of locations, there are a few notable differences between these two Waterhog products. First, as you mentioned, the Waterhog Premier has a diamond top surface design whereas the Waterhog Classic has a raised waffle or square pattern. Also, the Waterhog Premier Mat is available in additional colors compared to the Classic version. Whereas the Waterhog Classic Mats can be customized in 1 ft increments, the Waterhog Premier Mats can only be made in incrementally larger sizes up to 60 ft long. Regarding functionality, the Waterhog Premier matting has a 25% greater face-weight, which adds to its overall durability and longevity as well as its ability to wick more rain and snow from people's shoes and boots.  At the end of the day, however, both are great entrance mats that work in a myriad of environments.
